New website design for The Jackson House Inn

April 21st, 2011 by

A warm-hearted congratulations to Rick and Kathy Terwelp, innkeepers of The Jackson House Inn in Woodstock Vermont! Rick and Kathy recently became the owners and reopened the 1890 old Victorian home Bed and Breakfast, and came to us at InsideOut to host and re-design the website. They had beautiful photography of their recently rejuvenated inn taken by Christian Giannelli, which is showcased throughout the new website. Show worthy features of the Jackson House Inn include classic New England-style guest rooms and spacious one-room suites, well suited grounds and property for beautiful weddings and group events, and delightful homemade breakfasts made with fresh local ingredients, surrounded by a breathtaking view of the gardens and distant hills.

Kathy and Rick are passionate people who have poured themselves into their bed and breakfast, and it shows! On TripAdvisor they have nothing but excellent reviews, and a good number of them in only a few months of running the bed and breakfast. We are happy to provide them with a great new website design that showcases the best parts of their inn, and allows them to maintain and update the blog, specials, photo gallery, and content of their website via WordPress.

InsideOut Team Attends WordCamp Seattle 2011

April 18th, 2011 by

Here at InsideOut, we are all fans of WordPress! Because of that, and a desire to learn more about WordPress and how we can better use it to serve our clients, some of us attended WordCamp Seattle on April 16th. WordCamp is the premier event to talk with other designers, developers, and users of WordPress, and expand our knowledge.

The event was hosted at the University of Washington and was attended by around 300 people. There were 14 speakers, each a specialist in their field ranging from best SEO practices, to creating a great website theme, to proper coding techniques.  It isn’t every day you get to meet one of the actual WordPress developers (who flew in from Washington DC) so it was a real treat that he was giving a lecture on best coding practices.

Trina Packard, Skyla Grimes, Kailey Lampert, and Brad Doss split up to attend the following lectures:

  • Tools for Tummeling
  • Using AJAX in Plugins and Themes
  • Making Custom Theme Options Easy
  • Writing Better Plugins for a Better Web
  • Theming for the Masses
  • WordPress SEO
  • Best Practices for Plugin Development

WordCamp was also well documented on Twitter using the #wcsea hashtag.  That is one great thing about a room of 300 “geeks” – using social media to communicate, coordinate, and share information!

New Website Design for Westby House Inn and Restaurant

March 29th, 2011 by

Westby House Inn and Restaurant

Recently launched is a new website design for innkeepers Mike and Marie Cimino, of Westby House Inn and Restaurant in Westby, Wisconsin. We designed a website for them in 2007, built in static html and css, and using InsideOut’s Web Tools, including Easy Edit, Photo Gallery, Gift Certificates, and Specials Editor tools. These tools allowed innkeepers to edit the content of their website, upload and manage photos in their photo gallery, add and manage their specials page, and collect and manage gift certificate requests.
A few years later, InsideOut’s tools were still doing the job they’d been cut out to do but in the meantime, WordPress had risen to high potential and created new standards of website management. When Marie came to us wanting more flexibility to add photos and pages to her website, we designed and built a WordPress site for her, giving her all the flexibility of her old site, plus the ability to add photos and new pages throughout the site, herself.

Conferences and New Websites Mark the Start of 2011

March 1st, 2011 by

To date, 2011 has been a whirlwind of activity both in Sequim and on the road. Conferences and trade shows have kept us on the move. Building websites, and designing and printing travel planners have kept us busy at home. Whew. We wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Jack Waknitz and Lisa Lidback in Charleston, SC, for the PAII conference.

In early January, Pat McCauley, Jack Waknitz, and Lisa Lidback traveled to Charleston, South Carolina, for the PAII conference. As a PAII Silver Sponsor, InsideOut hosted the kick-off cocktail party at the conference, which was great fun for all who attended. Lisa, Jack, and Pat met some first time PAII attendees and saw many old friends. The PAII conference is always a good trip – we connect with our clients and meet new Innkeepers.

Barely home a week, Jack and Pat packed their bags once more and headed to the Dude Ranch Conference in Tucson, AZ, to share the new Dude Ranchers’ Association website with members of the association. They stayed with Rosemary and Dave Brown of Hacienda Del Deiserto, wonderful hosts and a charming casita. A highlight of the trip was certainly the wild javelinas that come each day to the back door of the inn, drawn by the great scents that waft from the kitchen. It was a great trip all around, not least because of the warm sunshine. Check out the video:

Laura Alisane and Pat McCauley then traveled to San Diego for the California Bed and Breakfast conference. Pat spoke about Critical Elements of Web Design. Laura hosted a FaceBook roundtable and a session about blog topics for innkeepers. It was good to connect with our neighbors to the south.

The InsideOut team back in Sequim has been busy as well. January saw the launch of several websites: duderanch.org; lonesomehollow.com (a redesign); and chestnutcottagerestaurant.com. February was dedicated to building more websites, and catching up on proposals and paperwork generated by the conferences.

We’ll be on the road again in April, and hope to see you then.
